During an unexpected trip to Newport the other weekend I could see a multitude of neon sails coming across the channel. Byte CII Worlds were being hosted out of Sail Newport and were making their way to Potter's Cove for day 2 of racing! I was there just in time to catch the first few races of the day.
Named the Youth Olympic Games Boy's & Girl's singlehander boat, this new Zim Sailing design incorporates a smaller hull with a larger sail plan comparable to a Laser Radial in sail area. With a modern mylar and neon look, the sail appears rather similar to a 29er in design. Meant for one sailor between 120-145 lbs., the Byte gives those who would prefer an alternative to a Laser 4.7 another option. The Byte CII is growing in popularity and I was glad it was such a gorgeous day for shots out on the water!
