Accepted Work: Art of the Ocean State

Accepted Work: Art of the Ocean State

July 11, 2012

Wickford was very busy this past weekend with it's annual Art Festival.  I did not get a chance to go this year, but it was probably overflowing with great talent and enthusiastic crowds as usual!  The Wickford Art Association, the hosting party, also held a call for entry for it's summer show "Art of the Ocean State", which I eagerly submitted work for.  I'm happy to report that all three of my entries were accepted to this show, which will remain up in the Wickford Art Gallery until July 15th.  Be sure to head down to Beach Street before then to check it out!  (Perhaps before heading to the town beach?)
The Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-3pm, and Sunday Noon-3pm.  You can always find out more information at www.wickfordart.org.

I've been wanting to shoot more portraits lately, but in combination with the surf community that I've been so involved with the past year.  My good friend, Kevin Tanner, behind Soudnings Surf Co creates some gorgeous handcrafted boards.  He does all his own shaping, resin work, and glassing, and I wanted to photograph some beautiful boards to highlight his craftsmanship as well as portraits of my friends who ride them.  I decided to do board portraits.

Winter Aerials

Some days I just don't feel like swimming.  Some days I don't feel like shooting with a 7lb telephoto setup on the beach.  Those days are perfectly suited for drone shots, should the wind be accommodating enough.

I've only had a couple drone flights this winter, one during a sunny but cold morning at the beach, and a second during a slightly windier day at Point Judith lighthouse. It's always a refreshing perspective!
