Etchells Worlds

Newport was the chosen location for the incredibly well attended Etchells World Championship Regatta this year.  Over 90 boats came from far and wide, across the USA, Switzerland, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Australia, and more for 5 days of one-design competition just off of Brenton Point.  With several pre-race days of practice and training, plus the 5 days of competition, it was almost two full weeks of Etchells all the time in Newport Harbor!  A total of 9 races were scored, with point totals ranging from 62 overall to 728, but I guess that's what you can expect with such a large fleet.

I made it out for the last day of racing.  The wind was a little flukey, never completely filling, but the sun was out and the breeze was comfortable!  Access to the race course was restricted but the downwind approach with spinnakers spanning as far as the eye could see was always a spectacle. Congratulations to the US team of Hardesty, Canfield, Roble, and Eagan from San Diego for their win!
