The results are in! The winning images have been posted! The American Society of Media Photographers, New York Chapter, hosts an annual photography contest, and I am pleased to announce an image from your very own made the cut for the image11 photo competition! My photo, titled "Fish", was taken in January of this year during a trip to San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences. This image in particular has already received recognition in the Photographic Resource Center's Student Exhibition in Boston this year, Creative Quarterly Issue #24, and Vermont PhotoPlace Gallery's "The Poetry of Shadows" Juried Exhibition. To add to the list, my image will be showcased in a gallery exhibition of all the winning image11 photographs as an Honorable Mention, Student Category.

I've been wanting to shoot more portraits lately, but in combination with the surf community that I've been so involved with the past year. My good friend, Kevin Tanner, behind Soudnings Surf Co creates some gorgeous handcrafted boards. He does all his own shaping, resin work, and glassing, and I wanted to photograph some beautiful boards to highlight his craftsmanship as well as portraits of my friends who ride them. I decided to do board portraits.
A lot of us enjoy the warm weather, but a select few of us still enjoy (or perhaps tolerate) the cold weather. And nothing quite says winter like a fresh snowfall! On the rare occasion Rhode Island experiences more than one inch of snow while there's swell in the water, you can find a select few of dedicated riders on the shore eager to have a snow session.
Some days I just don't feel like swimming. Some days I don't feel like shooting with a 7lb telephoto setup on the beach. Those days are perfectly suited for drone shots, should the wind be accommodating enough.
I've only had a couple drone flights this winter, one during a sunny but cold morning at the beach, and a second during a slightly windier day at Point Judith lighthouse. It's always a refreshing perspective!
