Selected in a Juried Exhibition!

Selected in a Juried Exhibition!

March 20, 2011

So I've been spending a lot of my free time the past couple months searching for and submitting to various art and photography competitions, contests, etc.  And I'm happy to say I was recently selected by the PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont to be part of their Black and White exhibition!  It was a juried competition, and my image, "Trap Falls" made the cut!

I will not be in the actually gallery show, but my image was among several other finalists that made it as part of the "Online Annex Gallery".  All the images selected will be printed as a collection in a Blurb Book which will be up for purchase soon.  Of course being part of the actual gallery exhibition would have been an honor, but I'm still very pleased my image was selected!  Check out the link to see the other images that made it into the exhibition and Online Annex.

Hopefully I'll have more good news when results of other photo competitions come in!

I've been wanting to shoot more portraits lately, but in combination with the surf community that I've been so involved with the past year.  My good friend, Kevin Tanner, behind Soudnings Surf Co creates some gorgeous handcrafted boards.  He does all his own shaping, resin work, and glassing, and I wanted to photograph some beautiful boards to highlight his craftsmanship as well as portraits of my friends who ride them.  I decided to do board portraits.

A lot of us enjoy the warm weather, but a select few of us still enjoy (or perhaps tolerate) the cold weather.  And nothing quite says winter like a fresh snowfall!  On the rare occasion Rhode Island experiences more than one inch of snow while there's swell in the water, you can find a select few of dedicated riders on the shore eager to have a snow session.

Winter Aerials

Some days I just don't feel like swimming.  Some days I don't feel like shooting with a 7lb telephoto setup on the beach.  Those days are perfectly suited for drone shots, should the wind be accommodating enough.

I've only had a couple drone flights this winter, one during a sunny but cold morning at the beach, and a second during a slightly windier day at Point Judith lighthouse. It's always a refreshing perspective!
