Village Faire

January 03, 2013

Great News!  I am now part of the artist cooperative "Village Faire" located at 83 Brown Street in Wickford!  This great little shop is located on the wharf behind Beach Rose Café where the Midnight Sun used to be.  (For fellow Midnight Sun fans, no worries!  They simply relocated to Main Street!)  There are 20+ local artists and artisans participating, and the members list keeps changing and expanding.  A large portion of participants come to us courtesy of the Shady Lea Mill, which houses studios for dozens artists and crafters in a historic complex.  Among the art items at Village Faire are illustrators and painters such as my old teach Mr. Paine, and some handmade pottery items.  Some of my favorite pieces are handmade jewelry featuring local sea glass and genuine pearls.  Lots of antiques and vintage items, some great books, Rhode Island Spa Products, sea shell ornaments, cast bronze home décor... the list goes on and on!

I will be featuring some fine art pieces plus some small photography products, such as my new release "Oceanview", some small America's Cup posters, and Greeting Cards!  Inventory is always coming and going so if you get a chance to stop in and check it out, be sure to browse through my section in the middle of the shop.  Or swing by when I'm working on Wednesday afternoons!

This truly is a great opportunity and I'm incredibly thankful for the Village Faire participants for providing me with this great outlet!

I've been wanting to shoot more portraits lately, but in combination with the surf community that I've been so involved with the past year.  My good friend, Kevin Tanner, behind Soudnings Surf Co creates some gorgeous handcrafted boards.  He does all his own shaping, resin work, and glassing, and I wanted to photograph some beautiful boards to highlight his craftsmanship as well as portraits of my friends who ride them.  I decided to do board portraits.

A lot of us enjoy the warm weather, but a select few of us still enjoy (or perhaps tolerate) the cold weather.  And nothing quite says winter like a fresh snowfall!  On the rare occasion Rhode Island experiences more than one inch of snow while there's swell in the water, you can find a select few of dedicated riders on the shore eager to have a snow session.

Winter Aerials

Some days I just don't feel like swimming.  Some days I don't feel like shooting with a 7lb telephoto setup on the beach.  Those days are perfectly suited for drone shots, should the wind be accommodating enough.

I've only had a couple drone flights this winter, one during a sunny but cold morning at the beach, and a second during a slightly windier day at Point Judith lighthouse. It's always a refreshing perspective!
