Hinckley // Picnic 40

This year is the Hinckley Company's 90th Anniversary.  That's almost a full century of gorgeous luxury yachts made in America.  Since 1928, Hinckley has been building boats in coastal Maine in the waters of Southwest Harbor.  It was fitting that we should return to such a classic backdrop to photograph the newest launch, the newly designed Picnic 40.

I drove up to Bar Harbor, for the fourth time in the past several months, to join the Hinckley team at their Maine facilities and photograph the beautiful blue Champlain (perhaps my favorite hull color yet).  We woke bright and early to be on the dock for 4:30am to get out on the water for a 5am sunrise shoot.  We lucked out with beautiful weather, sun, and light breeze throughout the day.  Shooting the Picnic 40 was terrific, and by noon we had already gotten the majority of shots we had planned for.  Classic Maine backdrops included boat houses on the beach of Cranberry Island, views up the fjord of Somes Sound, and of course out front of the Hinckley production house in Southwest Harbor.

The Picnic 40 is part of Hinckley's new epoxy hull builds, featuring wonder flow as you walk from the stern around the side of broad seating areas, past the wheelhouse to a spacious interior including a convertible v-berth and galley.  Perhaps the coolest and most futuristic element was an electric retractable door on the side of the hull for easy boarding from the dock!
