As the rest of the day 3 progressed for Jr. Race Week, I moved from the 420 circle to the Optimist circle across the harbor. Here, junior sailors age 8-13 were competing in the little one design Optis across four separate fleets divided by age group, Red, White & Blue, plus Green fleet for the newbies.
The breeze had picked up as wind howled across Conanicut Island to deliver gusts around 15 knots for these sailors in the middle of the East Passage. With racers dropping out left and right, I only caught two and a half races as they called it for the day around 2:30pm. But there were several troopers out there, hiking hard and handling the heavier air & swell. They sure put on a great show!
