Summer sailing has drawn to a close and the first days of school are upon us. It wasn't too long ago I was making my last visits to the WSA Junior Sailing Program to take a few more shots of the kids. First up, the racers! Wickford made a brilliant showing at NBYA with an overall win for a Division in 420s at Race Week and a second place for the overall NBYA season. Great job you guys! Now go enjoy high school :)
Next up, the Intermediates, who joined a few racers for some after-class sailing one evening. It was a beautiful summer evening with gorgeous golden light. These after class races were a lot of fun and these intermediates kept pace with the Opti Racers. Job well done you guys, hope to see you competing in races next summer too!
Thirdly is the Opti Racers themselves. My visit to their class in the last weeks of sailing turned out to be a terrific windy day on the water, with a strong seabreeze at about 10-12 knots. Great for the kids and great for energetic action photos too! Just about all of these sailors are former students of mine, who I've seen grow from their first days in Prams into highly competent and competitive sailors, always with their eye on the prize and a great Corinthian spirit to boot! I hope this was a great summer for all of you and hope to see you next year (perhaps in 420s)!
Last but not least I visited a Beginner class to see some new faces who joined the program for the last four weeks of sailing. While I recognize fewer and fewer beginners these days I'm always impressed when they really take to the sport. There were several eager students in this bunch and a good handful of extremely fast learners who surprised all of us! Great job kids, hope to see you out on the water again next summer!
Now back to school everyone, and don't forget sailing is a year 'round sport with winter frostbiting and spring school seasons. I know I have only fond memories of junior sailing years and I hope all of you do too.
All photos on my website under WSA Junior Sailing 2013 and if you're eager to sign up already for next summer, I highly encourage it! NBYA results can be found here as well.
