NBYA Junior Race Week 2017

Last week was the Narragansett Bay Yacht Association's Junior Race Week, an annual regatta hosted for all the junior sailors on Narragansett Bay. This year, hosted by Sail Newport, was also the area qualifier for the single and double handed championships, so the event drew even more boats compared to previous years.

I was on the water for race days 1 and 2, with fair weather and strong currents as junior sailors competed in 420s, Lasers, Open Bic, and Optimists. First day had lighter breezes, hot muggy weather, and a brief morning postponement before racing was underway. I tagged along on the 420 circle to photograph the action. Day 2 was windier, with gusts around 15 knots. I hung out with the Opti circles for the second day of racing, and watched as sailors age 8-13 battled winds and chop!
