RI State Championship

High School Sailing for Rhode Island culminated in the State Championship hosted out of Fort Adams by teams from Rogers and Middletown.  Twelve high school teams competed on a sunny May afternoon with just about the most perfect conditions anyone could ask for!  There was a calm consistent southerly rolling through the harbor, and a warm sun overhead.  Racing started around 3:30pm and there was only a few good hours left in the afternoon for racing.  With a fleet comprised of boats from St. Georges and sails from other schools, boats sailed windward / leewards with a gate twice around.  Five races were squeezed in for both A and B fleets, which was rather impressive for such a short race day.

In the end, Moses Brown came out on top by one point, with Middletown in second, and North Kingstown in third separated by Rogers in fourth place by just one more point.  While this event wasn't important for any regional rankings, it was a terrific event full of friendly interstate competition.  It was a beautifully warm and fun day of sailing, and I can’t wait for more days like this as the summer arrives!
