Bullseye Nationals

So at the beginning of September I was invited to shoot the Bullseye National Regatta hosted out of Saunderstown Yacht Club here on Narragansett Bay.  Bullseyes are the fiberglass equivalent of the Herreshoff 12 1/2, wonderful little daysailers with a competitive edge.  After some rainy weather, the sky cleared up for a wonderfully warm and sunny weekend of sailing! MOY Classic Yacht Regatta

The very last weekend of August, one of the most beautiful celebrations of classic boats was held out of Newport Harbor in foggy and rainy conditions.  The Museum of Yachting's Annual Classic Yacht Regatta boasted several classes with boats ranging from 20 feet to 50 feet in length.  Canvas sails, varnished wood spars, teak decking... it's a gorgeous regatta that I love to see every year.  This...

Race Week Optis

As the rest of the day 3 progressed for Jr. Race Week, I moved from the 420 circle to the Optimist circle across the harbor.  Here, junior sailors age 8-13 were competing in the little one design Optis across four separate fleets divided by age group, Red, White & Blue, plus Green fleet for the newbies.  The breeze had picked up as wind howled across Conanicut Island to deliver gusts around 15...

Race Week at the 420 Circle

So the culmination of 8 weeks of junior sailing for those sailing on Narragansett Bay happens at Race Week, the NBYA Jr. Olympic Festival that incorporates Club 420s, Optis and Lasers into a three day sailing event!
