Late Summer Surf

Happy Holidays!  It's the week of Christmas, and I feel like I'm still catching up from a busy season of late summer surf and fall travel.  Right before I left for Ireland there were back to back swells that just seemed too perfect to pass up.  It was mostly knee high or die, and I was out there swimming at golden hour with friends for two of my favorite sessions of the whole season!  Plus a day of 75° and sunny in late September left us all thinking back to last year's incredible Indian Summer.

Battle of the Beach 2018

July Summer Surf

Rhode Island isn't particularly known for summer surf.  You might get the occasional 2ft day but even then it's rare to get multiple good swells during the mid summer months.  This year opened with Hurricane Chris, and it wasn't long after that that I found myself out swimming in the lineup again for some gorgeous longboarding days in late July. More Surf // Morning in Matunuck

Good swell doesn't come terribly often to Rhode Island during summer months, unless you like longboarding days in 2 footers.  But a couple Fridays ago we were surprised with a day or so of chest to head high sets rolling up the coast. The forecast was only for 3-4 ft, but after swimming out at Matunuck bright and early I checked the buoy report and it was still 6 ft at 9 seconds! Definitely bigger...

Juniors

I can't believe the summer is already over!  I tell myself every June to enjoy all the sunny days, because they'll be gone before you know it!  Although, I still love autumn, so I'm not totally complaining :) This summer I expanded my junior sailing photography.
